A full-featured voice assistant has found its way into the cockpit of the MINI models for the first time. The MINI Intelligent Personal Assistant can be activated by just saying “Hey MINI” or by pressing the push-to-talk button on the steering wheel. It allows customers to control important functions by voice command from navigation, communication until car functions like climate control. You have the option to choose from two different avatars, allowing you to personalize your driving experience even further.

    Use it.

    Your smartphone or smartwatch replaces the car key. As you approach your MINI with the MINI Digital Key Plus, it automatically unlocks the doors. You can keep your device in your pocket, start the engine, and drive away. Locking occurs when you move away from your MINI.

    Activate it.

    Hold the Setup Card to your smartphone, and the MINI App will guide you through the steps. Create a profile, authorize with Setup Card, and activate the MINI Digital Key Plus. Once you enter with the physical key, the activation is complete.

    Share it.

    Depending on the device, up to 18 keys can be activated for a vehicle. Share securely via text message with friends. The Digital Key can be shared across platforms with smartphones from other manufacturers. Rights and roles, such as a reduced maximum speed, can be flexibly adjusted.

    Do it remote.

    Unlock, lock, control the windows up and down and more. As soon as you are nearby, all the functions of the physical key are available to you in the MINI App. In tight parking spaces, you can easily maneuver your MINI using the MINI App, depending on your vehicle's equipment.

    For your service.

    The Service Card is the additional key for MINI Service visits or breakdowns. Simply place it on the smartphone tray to activate it, confirm briefly, and until then, it remains deactivated in your MINI.

    FAQs.

    MINI ID & Personalisation.

    Click on the profile picture at the bottom right of the central display, then scan the QR code in the "Login with MINI ID" area with your smartphone camera or a QR code reader. If you have already logged into the MINI App, the MINI ID is automatically transferred to your MINI and the vehicle is automatically added to your MINI App. If not, you will be redirected to the website and once you have logged in/registered, you will also be automatically logged into the vehicle. You can then link your key and Digital Key with your MINI ID in the menu under “MINI ID” - “Settings” - “Driver Recognition”. You will then be automatically greeted personally when you unlock your MINI with a linked key and be able to find your personal settings such as your most recent navigation destinations, favourite radio stations, etc..
    After logging in to the vehicle with a MINI ID, the vehicle is automatically added to the MINI App. This ensures access to all vehicle functions such as favourites saved in the quick access menu (“Toolbelt”) and access to recent destinations, etc. In addition, personal vehicle settings, like those for navigation, driver assistance, climate control or media, are saved to the MINI profile and can be synchronised with other vehicles with MINI Operating System 9. Logged-in users can also receive personal recommendations from the MINI Intelligent Personal Assistant.
    Up to seven users can log in to one vehicle with the MINI ID. The first user who has successfully added the MINI to the MINI App automatically becomes the main user. All other users are co-users. The main user has special rights. He/she can book MINI Connected Upgrades, set up a Digital Key and share it with fellow users, manage the co-users, and adjust further menu settings.

    MINI Connected.

    With MINI Connected Base as part of the standard equipment, you can use basic MINI Intelligent Personal Assistant and MINI Navigation functions as well as Remote Services in your MINI with Operating System 9. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Amazon Alexa Car Integration are also included as standard equipment of MINI Operating System 9. Depending on the country of delivery, model and equipment, you can purchase optional vehicle functions as “MINI Connected Upgrades” retrospectively from the MINI Connected Store and install them in your vehicle over-the-air. Regular MINI Remote Software Upgrades keep your MINI with Operating System 9 right up to date with the latest technology developments.
    In conjunction with the optional “MINI Connected Package”, your MINI with Operating System 9 gives you access to an extended MINI Connected Store with an ever growing range of third-party apps. The MINI Connected Package includes country-specific apps for music, podcasts, news and in-car gaming. The MINI Connected Package also expands the functions of the MINI Intelligent Personal Assistant with the additional visualisation of the "Spike" avatar. The extended MINI Navigation functions include real-time traffic information (RTTI) with colour display across the entire map area (even without activated route guidance), 3D representations of buildings and landmarks, realistic lane guidance visualisation at complex exits and intersections, and additional, dynamic information for special destinations in selected categories. Please note: The range of functions and map content offered by MINI Navigation may vary depending on the country of delivery.
    Yes, a free trial period starts after logging in to your new vehicle with your MINI ID. The duration of this period may vary depending on country of delivery. Further information on available services and apps as well as the prices of the MINI Connected Package for different runtimes can be found for MINI models with Operating System 9 in the MINI Connected Store, in the vehicle or online.
    Yes, the MINI Connected Package in your MINI with Operating System 9 enables you to use all apps from the MINI Connected Store via the SIM card built into your MINI without any limitations. Please note: You may incur additional costs for in-app purchases.
    With a MINI Connected Package, you can expand the standard functions of your MINI with Operating System 9 and add additional vehicle apps from the MINI Connected Store.     Yes, in your MINI with Operating System 9, you can display and operate the apps of your connected smartphone with Android Auto or Apple CarPlay in the central instrument (“MINI Interaction Unit”).
    Yes, the regular Remote Software Upgrades provide your MINI with quality enhancements. And depending on the country of delivery, model and equipment, new functions or functional improvements will be added – free of charge and over the air. Once a Remote Software Upgrade is available for your vehicle, you will receive a notification via the MINI App on your smartphone and in the central instrument (“MINI Interaction Unit”) of your vehicle.

    MINI App.

    With the MINI App, you can use the following functions: vehicle finder, check vehicle status, lock/unlock doors, activate Remote 3D View, start climate/ventilation control, set climate control and/or charging for departure times and activate exterior lights or sound the horn. You can also set up a Digital Key, upload a personal picture for the Personal Mode as part of the MINI Experience Modes and analyse your recent trips. The range of functions and functionality may vary depending on the country, model, production date, software version and optional equipment booked for your MINI.

    Digital Key.

    Depending on your country, model, and equipment of your MINI with MINI Operating System 9, you can unlock and start your MINI with the MINI Digital Key Plus using the "Teleservices" (6AE) and "Comfort Access" (322) options, along with your smartphone or smartwatch model. If your country and mobile device support the "Ultra-Wideband" (UWB) standard, your MINI will automatically unlock as you approach. Additional comfort features are available on your smartphone or smartwatch and in the MINI app. To start the engine, your mobile device just needs to be inside the cabin. If UWB is not supported, data transmission occurs via "Near Field Communication" (NFC), requiring you to hold your smartphone or smartwatch to the door handle and place it in the smartphone holder to start the engine.

    The MINI Digital Key Plus is a digital vehicle key on your compatible smartphone (iOS or Android) or Apple Watch, allowing you to unlock and start your MINI conveniently and securely without taking the device out of your pocket. It is available as an option with "Comfort Access" (SA 322) in conjunction with "Teleservices" (6AE). Using "Ultra-Wideband" (UWB) technology, your MINI detects your approach and distance. When you are about three meters away, your MINI wakes up and signals this with a welcome scenario through exterior and interior lighting. Upon entry, personal settings are loaded into your driver profile (MINI ID), and your smartphone connects via Bluetooth®. A welcome screen on the central instrument ("MINI Interaction Unit") greets you personally. Additional comfort features are available in the MINI app with an activated MINI Digital Key Plus. Please note: A limited-functionality MINI Digital Key is also available depending on the delivery country and mobile device.
    Your digital key is securely stored on the Secure Element of your smartphone or smartwatch. Both "Ultra-Wideband" (UWB) and "Near Field Communication" (NFC) technologies are used to reliably confirm the proximity of the sender and receiver.
    You can unlock and start your vehicle even if your smartphone or smartwatch needs charging. With the right settings, you can still use it as a key for several hours after it has turned off. Just hold the mobile device to the outer door handle and follow the instructions on the display.
    An internet connection is only needed to activate the MINI Digital Key Plus. Once the key is installed on your device, no connection is required for unlocking, locking, or starting the engine. You can use the digital key completely independently of the internet, even in underground garages or areas with poor network coverage.
    The Setup Card allows you, as the vehicle owner, to easily set up the MINI Digital Key Plus on your smartphone without prerequisites. Simply hold the card to your device or scan the QR code on the back and follow the instructions. Then, enter your MINI with the physical key to complete the activation. The Setup Card is the new and fastest way to set up the MINI Digital Key Plus and will be delivered with many MINI models starting July 2025. Note that the Setup Card must be stored securely outside the vehicle after setting up the MINI Digital Key Plus. The card is not required for sharing a digital key.
    The Service Card is provided with your vehicle in a deactivated state and can be activated and used as a full key if needed. Simply place the card on the smartphone holder and follow the instructions. Use the Service Card whenever a physical key needs to be handed over, such as for scheduled service appointments, parking services, or emergencies. The card should always remain in your MINI in its deactivated state. Once activated, it should not remain in the vehicle for security reasons. The Service Card offers similar functionality to the known Key Card and will be delivered with many MINI models starting July 2025.
    Yes, you will always receive a physical key, even if your vehicle is equipped with the MINI Digital Key Plus, including the Setup Card and Service Card. It provides full functionality according to your model's equipment and serves as a practical backup key when using the MINI Digital Key as the primary key.
    Depending on the delivery country and mobile device, you can unlock and start your MINI with either the MINI Digital Key Plus or the MINI Digital Key on your compatible smartphone or Apple Watch. While the MINI Digital Key Plus transmits data via "Ultra-Wideband" (UWB) and Bluetooth®, the MINI Digital Key uses "Near Field Communication" (NFC). To unlock or lock your vehicle with the MINI Digital Key, you must hold your mobile device to the door handle. The MINI Digital Key Plus automatically unlocks your vehicle as you approach, initiates a welcome scenario, and activates all vehicle start functions. With the MINI Digital Key, you must place your mobile device in the smartphone holder to start the engine. With the MINI Digital Key Plus, your mobile device only needs to be inside the cabin.     ¹ The feature set shown on this page depends on your specific MINI model and equipment, as well as your mobile device. Automatic proximity recognition is fully available only with MINI Digital Key Plus. With the MINI Digital Key, you can access functions that do not rely on automatic device recognition when approaching the vehicle (this applies to all devices without Ultra-Wideband technology and to the MINI Convertible with any device). The new setup process via the Setup Card has been available for all MINI models since 2025 (except MINI Convertible).
